Ganesha, the god with the elephant head, is one of the best known and most popular gods of the Hindus. He stands for luck and success in all undertakings, embodies intelligence and wisdom, is responsible for dance, music and poetry, is considered the patron of science and merchants. As the lord of all beginnings, he is invoked to ask for luck and success in travel, in life changes, in any kind of new beginning. Statues of Ganesha are found as messengers of good fortune not only in temples but also in many homes.
