Dewi Sri is considered an important fertility goddess, especially in Bali and Java. She regulates all life, directs above all in her function as the goddess of the moon the flourishing of the food that grows on the earth and determines the death that makes plants, animals and humans return to their bosom. Thus it also commands over the underworld and the other world. Above all, however, it provides food for the people and thus ensures their survival. Since rice is the main food of this region, Dewi Sri is above all the venerated rice goddess. She is portrayed as a goddess of unusual beauty. She is always portrayed as youthful, supple and slender
The right hand of this goddess lies on her knee and the fingers point towards the earth. The left hand rests on the lap with the palm facing upwards. "Bhumisparsha" means "to touch the ground"
